Comments: Dr. O' Connor is not only an amazing neurosurgeon but such a sweet and lovely person as well. I had pain in my lumbar region, and terrible leg pain for almost two years. After trying chiropractic care, physical therapy and cortisone shots to no avail, I finally had a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon. He said that due to the many problems I had in my back and the pain radiating down through both of my legs the best option would be surgery. I decided to put it off for a while and wasn't sure what I was going to do, since it seemed like such a big decision. The surgeon seemed competent enough and was nice but I just didn't have the feeling that I wanted to go ahead with him. And then a few months later still in terrible pain. I went for a second opinion with Dr. O'Connor.
I first met with Fran Brandt his PA, and she was wonderful, kind and understanding and explaining everything to me on my MRI in a much more thorough manner than I had previously had it explained to me. And then when I met Dr. O'Connor I felt totally comfortable and I knew that if I was going to proceed with surgery, this was going to be the place for me to go.
I wanted to get a second opinion and I found Dr. O' Connor and his wonderful PA; Fran Brandt. She too had the sweetest personality and explained everything on my MRI in a much more thorough way than it had been explained to me previously.
It's probably still a little early to give a review since I'm only 3 days out of surgery, But I feel like the pain is so much less than I ever anticipated. A good deal of my leg pain is gone. And naturally have pain at my incision sites. I had an anterior posterior procedure so they had to go in through my abdomen and my back as well.
I saw Dr. O'Connor and Fran two times after the operation and they both seemed happy with the results. And Boca Regional had some of the best most competent and nicest nurses as well that I've ever met. And I went over some physical therapy routines with the hospital physical therapist and will continue with some aftercare at home.
I will definitely post back in a few weeks to give an update on my progress which I think is only fair since it's so early in the game.
But I have a gut feeling that I'm going to recover very well, having done so well so far so early after having had major surgery and with knowing what to do and what not to do during the recovery phase through the instructions of the hospital nurses and the physical therapist. I truly feel I lucked out finding such a truly wonderful neurosurgeon, and PA. They are truly the best!
